What Can YOU Make From Pebbles…?

If you were in Brighton just before the Bank Holiday weekend you might just have spotted a rather unusual castle had been constructed on the seafront. Rather than being made from sand, this was made from pebbles. Not too strange I know; Brighton beach is full of pebbles. However THIS castle was made from Cadburys Pebbles – the new sugar coated chocolate snack. Not only are they delicious, but they are also a great shape for building things with, and if you have 90,000 you to can create a castle just like this one.

Yes there are 90,000 Pebbles here, a long with a quarter of a tonne of fondant icing and twenty kilos of icing sugar. Upon completion it weighed a massive half a tonne and was an incredible eight feet wide. It took 400 hours to build and was in position for just one day before being moved up to Cadburys World for the rest of the Bank Holiday.

What would YOU make with Pebbles? I managed to stack a few, without the assistance of fondant and icing sugar, but if I had some I’d probably try and replicate a famous landmark or building. Maybe the rather topical Walkie-Talkie Skyscraper in London would be a good one to try?

I’d love to hear what you’d make it you had 90,000 Pebbles!

Keep Safe In The Sun This Bank Holiday

Unusually this Bank Holiday weekend is shaping up to be quite nice. The sun looks set to shine for the duration, so no doubt we’ll all be heading outdoors. Whether its down to the beach, out to the park or off to a theme park I’m sure everyone’s first priority will be making sure the children are protected from the sun. I always make sure Little Man has suncream on if we’re out somewhere and he’s in direct sunlight and that we have cream with us to top up when needed. I also attempt to make him wear a hat, but to be honest the only hats he’s interested in wearing are cowboy or pirate ones. Me? Well I – like an alarming 40% of all parents – tend to forget to protect myself. I’m too busy making sure he’s safe that I often forget to put suncream on me. Like everyone I’m fully aware of the dangers of sun exposure but rarely remember those dangers apply to me, not just Little Man.

Cancer Research UK recently teamed up with Nivea Sun – the team behind the aforementioned statistic – to make sure that EVERYONE remembers to keep safe in the sun this summer, and as a sunny weekend approaches, now’s the best time to take note.

· Spend time in the shade if your shadow is shorter than you. If your shadow is shorter than you are, then the sun is strong.  During the UK summer, the sun is at its strongest between 11am and 3pm

· Wear a hat, t-shirt and sunglasses when the sun’s strong. Wide brimmed hats or foreign legion style caps are best

· Cancer Research UK recommends you use at least factor 15 sunscreen with a high star rating. Sunscreen rubs off easily if you sweat, swim or change clothes. So whether you’re in the UK or abroad, when the sun is strong remember to apply generously and reapply regularly

Make sure you stay safe and sun smart this weekend whilst you’re out enjoying yourself. More handy tips and information can be found online.

I am loving this warm weather at the moment, and with prospects of it continuing for a while, it should be a great Bank Holiday weekend. There’s something about the sunny weather that makes people feel more optimistic and energised, and I seem to find myself achieving much more lately. Hubby and I have been talking about getting some more decorating done this summer in the house, and I think its high time our bedroom got a new look. I’ve been wanting to paint a wall or two in there since we moved in – the house was literally a blank canvas with pale cream walls in every room – and we’ve been thinking a green colour would be nice. Spring like but also, apparently, good for helping you sleep.

I do have a bit of a thing for bedding too. I’m under strict instructions that I don’t buy any more new bedding without getting rid of existing sets first. To be fair all the bedding I’ve bought in recent years has been for Little Man, what with monkeys and Buzz Lightyear being high on his list of favourites. I’m hoping for something a little subtler in our bedroom. Something to compliment the green wall, like yellows, creams or browns. Chances are I won’t be able to sneak a new complete bedding set into the house, but perhaps I can convince Hubby to a new throw, blanket or bedspread. Something a bit luxurious, just to treat ourselves for a change as opposed to Little Man.

Maybe we’ll brave the shops this weekend and pick up some bits and pieces. Ideally I’d like some nice paint, a matching throw for the bed, and perhaps a couple of bedside lamps instead of coping with just one and someone invariably walking in to the bed each night! Our bedroom is our little haven – mostly – and I think its time we spruced it up a bit. At least until Little Man decides to use our bed as a trampoline again!
