#Review: Tangle Teezer

Tangle Teezer’s have been around for ages. They are one of those things I’ve wanted to try out for a while, so when a bright and funky Lemon Sherbet teezer landed on my doormat a few weeks ago, I was very excited.

sherbetlemonCute isn’t it? I love the contrasting colours. The sharp lemon and the softer pink make this stand out from the rest, and perfectly epitomises its name. I love how compact it is. It pretty much lives in my handbag, handy for keeping my hair looking neat when I’m constantly on the run. I love the shape. It is ergonomically brilliant, fitting perfectly in the palm of my hand giving me complete control.

Banish tangles and knots with a minimum of fuss, breakage or damage with the Tangle Teezer detangling brush uniquely designed with teeth that glide through your hair leaving it soft and shiny without tugging and pulling.

Using the brush leaves my hair smooth and sleek, and I think it works very well with my short bob style. A welcome addition to my handbag.

The Salon Elite Tangle Teezer is available in a range of fun and funky colours. There’s one for everyone.

Great Looking Skin On Little Sleep

The constant struggle for someone who is busy and on-the-go is how to keep your skin looking flawless even when you aren’t getting the proper amount of sleep. These tips will help your skin stay perfect even when you’re yawning all day.

1. Moisturize

Dry, flaky skin is never the way to go, and boosting your skin’s moisture content will help you look awake and perky too. Use a moisturizing cream that will let you achieve a delicate and clear skin. You can also use effective skin products that prevent break-outs. If you have particularly dry spots on your face, try using oil in that area.

2. Eat well

The only thing worse than not sleeping enough, is not eating well. Focus on nutrition and healthy fats to keep your skin looking great. Leafy greens like spinach and kale, berries, and fiber-rich foods are great nutrition that will make your skin look firm and clear. Healthy fats like avocado and nuts will brighten up your complexion. Eating healthy is important especially if you aren’t getting enough hours of sleep.

3. Use the right products

Treat your skin kindly and it will look great. In addition to moisturizing, make sure you use a gentle cleanser to get the day’s grit and grime off your face. Ensure that you take off all makeup before heading to sleep with a liquid cleanser or a makeup removing wipe. When blemishes arise, swiftly treat them with a product to reduce redness and swelling. Additionally, try a night cream to maximize your moisturizing during the overnight hours.

4. Morning improvements

If you wake up after a few hours of sleep looking a bit haggard, perk up with a product that has tea ingredients or peppermint oil. Keep a spoon in the freezer and press it to your under eye area when you wake up in the morning to reduce puffiness and dark circles.

Keep these tips in mind during those busy, sleepless times and you’ll keep your skin looking fresh and bright, even when you haven’t gotten the amount of sleep you really need.

Guest Post: Female Hair Loss

Hair loss in women is extremely common and can affect most women at some point in their lives.

Shuna Hammocks, a consultant Trichologist at Sussex Trichology explains that genetic thinning in women is pattern thinning affecting the top of the head, which can cause a lot of distress and the patient to feel very self-conscious about their hair. Patients feel that it is difficult to style the hair and that it has a real impact on the quality of their life.

Androgen Dependant Alopecia causes female hair loss and can affect women from any age, from puberty up to the menopause. At Sussex Trichology this is the most common condition that Shuna treats. It is a condition that causes the top area of the head and the crown to thin and make the scalp more transparent. It comes about when the circulating androgens topically on the top of the head cause the hairs to appear finer than the sides and the rear of the scalp. It is quite progressive and really quite slow. This condition can be treated very well at Sussex Trichology.

Other women consult us with hair shedding, perhaps following child birth, a nutritional deficiency, a medicine side effect or stress related hair loss and many more.

Telogen effluvium, thyroid hair loss, post-partum hair loss, scarring hair loss and even where people pull out their own hair (Trichotillomania) are all conditions that we regularly diagnose and treat at Sussex Trichology.

Female hair loss can have a devastating effect. Women often question “Why is my hair falling out?” and it is at this point that they should seek advice from a good Trichologist such as Shuna Hammocks at Sussex Trichology. Shuna understands how important hair is to women.

Beauty: Glossybox

You may remember I featured Birchbox in my Mothers Day Gift Guide feature earlier in the year. A monthly subscription box which sends out a few sample sized beauty products for you to try out, with the option to buy full sized versions in their online store. Well after reviewing Birchbox I came across Glossybox who provide a very similar product, so I thought I’d best check them out aswell.

I immediately loved the box that Glossybox provided the products in. Whilst there was something classy about the plain brown box with hot pink detailing of the Birchbox, I liked the floral pattern of the Glossybox. The box had been designed by Pearl Lowe, and whilst typically the boxes are much simpler and plainer, this was clearly a good time to sample one! Inside the packaging wasn’t as good as Birchbox. With Birchbox all the products come in a drawstring canvas bag. The Glossybox samples are simply sat on a bed of shredded paper wrapped in tissue. The brands featured are a mixture of classic ones and some I’d never heard of – there’s a huge list on the website of brands used – and the April box which I received included Nip-Fab, Yves Rocher and A-Derma. Everything which came in the box was something I would use – albeit perhaps not in the colour received – but there was nothing too wild that would just get put to one side and never opened. The perfume sample was lovely and the lip balm works a treat.

I am a big fan of these beauty boxes. They are ideal for someone like me who is generally overwhelmed by the range of beauty products out there, and likes to sample things first. I’ve been lucky enough to discover a few items that I’d genuinely buy again in full size, I now just need to decide which box to subscribe to…

Have A Happy Mothers Day

March is here and Mothers Day is fast approaching. I’m sure its very early this year, its usually closer to the end of the month and coincides with my own Mums birthday more often than not! There are gifts aplenty on the market at the moment, but here are my pick of the best for Mothers To Be, New Mums and Your Mum, whatever your budget.

If you’re pregnant this Mothers Day suggest to your other half that your bump buys you a gift set from Shea Mooti. I heartily recommend their Mama’s Moisturising Gift Set which includes a tub of Mama’s Everything Body Balm and some Soothing Foot & Leg Cream. The balm is fantastic. I’ve been using it on my eczema and on my chapped lips this winter. The tub is huge and the relief is instant. If you are pregnant rub it generously over your bump to keep your skin soft and supple. If you’ve recently given birth its ideal for cracked and sore nipples. The foot and leg cream is perfect for tired legs, whether you’re carrying around a large bump, or chasing after a chaotic toddler.

If you’re on a small budget, or perhaps your little one is insisting on buying Mummy something themselves, head down to your local supermarket. There are some great items on offer at great prices, including these iced gingerbread biscuits from Tesco. At just 90p each there are a great little token. They are nice and big and taste delicious, though you may have to prize them from your child’s hands if you want to eat it yourself. If gingerbread isn’t your thing go down to Asda and get hold of a new mug. All Mums need some form of caffeine to get them through the day, so a nice “Great Mum” mug is a certain winner. You can even get one for Grandma whilst you’re there. There’s also a lovely Alfie The Giraffe “Special Mum” soft toy available which any mother would treasure.

If your Mum needs a bit of pampering and you want to get her something that will last throughout the year, what about a subscription to Birchbox. Recently arrived from the USA, Birchbox is a monthly beauty box delivered straight to your door. Each box contains a selection of sample size beauty products for you to test out, and then there is a separate online store where you can buy full sized items which you love. I received the now sold old February box myself and I was very impressed. Beautifully packaged it contained, amongst other things, a pair of eyelash curlers, some Nick Chavez Beverly Hills Plump N’Thick Leave-In Thickening Mist, and Korres Guava Shower Gel. You are getting introduced to new and exciting brands and products you may not have heard of and used before, and all for just £10 per month delivered. A great treat for any mum.

If you can’t make it to see your Mum this Mothers Day and you want to send her something that little bit different to let her know you are thinking about her send her a decadent Cream Tea By Post. Distributed by Fanny’s Farm Shop these cream teas are delicious. With options of sending them for 1, 2 or 4 people, or even including mugs to drink the tea from, the sets make a lovely gift. We willingly tested out the cream tea for 2 and it was gorgeous. It arrived beautifully packaged and instead of being packed with bubble wrap or endless polystyrene it was protected with popcorn. A great eco-friendly packing which you can feed to your garden birds, so they get a little treat too. The scones were really nice and I loved the fact that the jam was homemade. Plenty of clotted cream is also supplied which made my day – I tend to go a little overboard so was fully satisfied. A truly unique and special treat.

This dainty bone china jam jar would make a great gift is you’re planning on creating your own Afternoon Tea this Mothers Day, or perhaps taking your Mum breakfast in bed. Beautifully made and decorated with a strawberry by Sophie Allport. The lid features a gap for your spoon, making this a very quaint addition to any table or tray. Part of the Strawberries and Cream range, a complete set would make a table look stunning, and last for many years to come.

Hotter are well known for their range of gorgeous and incredibly comfortable footwear, and they’ve featured on my website many times. What they are perhaps less known for is their range of handbags. The bags are of the same superior quality you’d expect from Hotter and one would make a great gift this Mothers Day. This is the Maui bag which is great for travelling. Its got a large zipped pocket, a small button fastened pocket and then a hidden pocket on the back. The hidden pocket is ideal for passports, tickets and other travel documents. It would also make a lovely day-to-day bag. It doesn’t have an enormous capacity so you couldn’t use it if you had your small children in tow, but for those child-free days or if you want your things separate to the changing bag, it would be perfect. You can also check out the new Hotter advert and shop from it at their website.

Guest Post: Top 5 Natural Beauty Tips

Posted by SussexMummy | Posted in Guest Post, Information | Posted on 15-02-2013

You don’t need a face full of makeup or a cupboard full of skincare products to look naturally beautiful. Natural beauty starts from the inside out, and it’s all about nurturing yourself – good health will always shine through. Follow our top 5 natural beauty tips for radiant, glowing, naturally beautiful skin, hair and nails.

1. Get Colourful

Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables in a wide range of colours for the most nutrients, vitamins and minerals. Each colour generally signifies a different vitamin – for example, bright orange fruits and veggies such as carrots contain beta-carotene, a vitamin essential for eye health. The more vitamins and nutrients you can take in from your food, the healthier you’ll feel and the better you’ll look.

2. Drink and Douse

For naturally glowing skin and care, keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Hydration starts from within, so give your moisturiser a head start by drinking at least 2 litres of water everyday. As for your hair, a quick rinse in cold water once you’ve rinsed your shampoo and conditioner out will add lots of shine and will help to set your style. For extra-shiny hair, douse your hair in malt vinegar and rinse out with lukewarm water.

3. Healthy Fat

People have a bit of a tendency to shy away from every product containing fat for fear that they’ll gain weight – but if you include healthy fats in your diet, from healthy sources, they will literally make you glow from the inside out. Your skin, hair and nails will all thank you for it. Include plenty of omega-3 rich foods in your diet, like oily fish, nuts, seeds and healthy oils such as extra-virgin olive oil and avocado oil.

4. Go Organic

When choosing skin products, opt for organic products that will nourish your skin from the inside out. Companies like Ila Spa sell products that are chemical and paraben free, packed with naturally occurring ingredients that are designed to work with your body’s own systems. Organic beauty products generally get to work faster, sinking into the skin more quickly than non-organic products – meaning that you can get on with the business of being beautiful, without hanging around waiting for your moisturiser to sink into your skin.

5. Hot or Cold

Sometimes, all you need to do to boost your natural beauty is to use products that are a little cold, or that are a little warm. For example, if you use eye cream that has been kept in the fridge, it will tighten and brighten the eye area and will help to drain away any fluid. Moisturisers that are kept in the fridge will also have a similar effect. Work with the hot and steamy environment of your shower by applying a moisturising hair mask or conditioner, wrap your head in a towel and then sit in the bathroom for a little while. The heat will let the conditioner get right to the heart of each hair follicle. The warm of the shower will also open your pores – so use this time to pluck your eyebrows.
