A New Year… A New Changing Bag

I am SUCH a changing bag addict. That and clothes from Fat Face, but that’s another story.

Before Christmas the very lovely team at BabyDino sent me a SkipHop bag to review. Now my knowledge of SkipHop pretty much consists of their cute toddler backpacks so being introduced to their changing bag range was very exciting for me. They aren’t the typical changing bags I go for to be honest as I typically choose those that look more like handbags than obviously changing bags, but after doing a bit of online research I was happy to make the exception.

I received the SkipHop Duo changing bag which features an impressive 11 pockets so storage is never a problem. It also comes with a changing mat for when you’re out and about, and special clips to help you attach it securely to your pushchair. There is also a padded shoulder strap to make carrying it nice and comfy.

SkipHopDuo

Despite the 11 pockets – and yes, I did count them – I didn’t find this bag as spacious as I would have liked. Things ended up in pockets all over the bag and when it was full the outer pockets did seem to impede on the large central one. The zip pockets on the top were most helpful as they were handy to access. I found these best for putting my purse, phone and keys in, and items like dummies and teething gel for Little Dude. I was hopeful that with it having so many pockets I’d be able to fit all Little Dude’s bits in, add my essentials too and then have a pocket free for Little Man’s few items – sonic screwdrivers predominantly – but I did keep filling every available space before that became an option.

The included changing mat was a very good size and designed to fit neatly within the bag which was good. It was also very comfy to carry and fit on my pushchair well with the main strap. I am yet to successfully attach the bag with the special clips, but I think that’s more user error than anything else! I tend to just sling the bag over the pushchair handle and get on my way rather than fiddle with the clips.

This is a great changing bag which I tend to use when I’m out with just Little Dude and when Little Man is at preschool. Its ideally sized for just one baby, and despite my issues with its size I do manage to fit in his changing essentials and milk and food for him. Design wise I think it clearly looks like a changing bag so wouldn’t be usable after he doesn’t need it any more like a lot of my existing bags are, BUT it is a great gender neutral bag so Daddy much prefers using this than my other bags which look much more like handbags. A great bag for organising your bits and pieces – and there are a lot of them with young babies – though not ideal if you have multiple children. Needless to say I’ll be off now to discover the rest of the SkipHop range!

BabyDino have a great array of changing bags on offer from SkipHop and other brands. You can also find them on Facebook and on Twitter @BabyDinoUK.

Christmas Gift Guide: Mia Tui Bags

I love handbags.

When I had my Little Man back just over a year ago I was a little sad to say goodbye to my (embarrassingly large) collection of handbags. I had at least one for every occasion and several more just because they were pretty/on sale/there, but what I didn’t have was any that were suitable for use as a changing bag. Somewhere to store nappies, wipes, food, snacks, drinks, toys, muslins, more wipes… even my largest handbag was completely unsuitable. So I went out and bought a rather dull looking – though incredibly functional – changing bag which worked wonders. I knew where everything was, I always had what I needed and Little Man always had a toy/drink/snack/wipe to hand.

Now my Little Man is that bit older the variety of “stuff” I need to carry round with me has changed – I no longer need dozens of nappies, we don’t need gallons of milk, and thank god we no longer need a hundred wipes on standby at all times. What I need now is a range of snacks, some toys and a drink. So I wanted a new bag – any excuse really – so I was overjoyed when Charlotte at Mia Tui bags offered me TWO of her bags to review.

Mia Tui bags aren’t primarily changing bags. They are bags for women – all women – for any occasion. And they aren’t wrong! These gorgeous leather bags look like handbags – they larger of the range looks like an overnight bag – and that satisfies my first need. My second was that is was big enough for what I needed and that I’d be able to find what I was looking for instantly.

The first bag Charlotte sent over was the Grace bag.

It looks like a handbag!!

This bag comes with a matching clutch, a bottle holder – for milk or water, a key clip, a pen pocket and a mobile phone pocket. There are multiple zip pockets inside it allowing your to keep your baby items separate if that’s what you’re using it for, plus a large main section for items you want immediately at hand. The long cross-body strap can also be adjusted to a shorter shoulder strap. I love this bag… but my Mum loves it more! My Mum is now the proud owner of this bag and she uses it daily as her handbag. Her love of handbags is similar to mine and she has been drooling over this bag since she first saw it back at the Baby Show For Trade where we first met Charlotte. She can find her keys, can produce a pen at a moments notice, and always answers her mobile phone – something she was previously notorious for not hearing or finding in time. A fantastic bag ideal for Mums – or Grandma’s – and a perfect gift this Christmas.

The second bag we received was the Amelie bag.

This bag is HUGE!!

This is Mia Tui’s signature large tote… and they aren’t kidding. I think my Little Man could live in this bag! It comes with two clear internal bags – airport security size for travel, a matching clutch, a bottle holder, pen pocket, mobile phone pocket, key clip, clips to secure your separate bags, and a hands free shoulder strap. Measuring an epic W39cm X D16cm X H40cm this bag is for “the woman who wants it all, all the time.” This bag is ideal for parents with multiple children who need a wide range of things to carry, or if you are going on a long car/train/plane journey and need to have plenty supplies to hand. You could use it as an bag to take to the office,  you could take it to the beach, you could use it as luggage for a weekend away. This bag has so many uses – it is phenomenal.

Both the Grace and the Amelie bag are available now in a range of colours from the Mia Tui website.

Product Review: Minene 4-In-1 Changing Bag

Changing bags come in all shapes and size, and range from totally functional to the more style-led end of the market.  The team at Minene sent me one of their bags to review after taking a shine to it at a ‘Christmas In July’ event earlier this year.
The 4-In-1 Changing Bag from Minene is just that – four separate bags that can be used either clipped together as one bag, or individually as one large super bag.
Firstly there is a backpack – this has two large deep zipped pockets and then two thermal pockets on the side for bottles.  Inside the two deep pockets are a selection of smaller pockets and a detachable thermal pouch that fits food and snacks in which need to be kept at temperature. There is also a zip pocket on the back with a comfortable changing mat inside.
Next there is a satchel bag – this is cunningly “hidden” inside one of the deep pockets.  When used within the backpack I utilised the security of a double zipped pocket to store items like my purse, car keys and camera.  When used separately it is a stylish shoulder bag, which I often use as a handbag when I’m out without my Little Man!
Then there is a smaller shoulder bag – this clips to the front of the backpack and is designed to hold your nappies and wipes.  With the separate straps which can be attached this transforms into a handy shoulder bag.
Finally there is a small purse – this is ideal if you’re just nipping out and want to have an emergency nappy and pack of wipes with you just in case.
All of these separate bags have been used as one easy to carry rucksack, and have also been used separately when every component part wasn’t needed.  As I said earlier I have even used the satchel bag as a handbag when I went out recently without my Little Man – it really is that attractive and roomy.
The Minene 4-In-1 Changing Bag is available online and comes in a variety of colours.
Minene have another changing bag – the Layla.  This is designed to look much more like a designer handbag than a changing bag, and does the job beautifully.  It has one large zipped pocket, three external thermal pockets and a matching changing mat.
The Layla Changing Bag is available now online and at Babies R Us in a variety of colours.
