Have A Happy Mothers Day

March is here and Mothers Day is fast approaching. I’m sure its very early this year, its usually closer to the end of the month and coincides with my own Mums birthday more often than not! There are gifts aplenty on the market at the moment, but here are my pick of the best for Mothers To Be, New Mums and Your Mum, whatever your budget.

If you’re pregnant this Mothers Day suggest to your other half that your bump buys you a gift set from Shea Mooti. I heartily recommend their Mama’s Moisturising Gift Set which includes a tub of Mama’s Everything Body Balm and some Soothing Foot & Leg Cream. The balm is fantastic. I’ve been using it on my eczema and on my chapped lips this winter. The tub is huge and the relief is instant. If you are pregnant rub it generously over your bump to keep your skin soft and supple. If you’ve recently given birth its ideal for cracked and sore nipples. The foot and leg cream is perfect for tired legs, whether you’re carrying around a large bump, or chasing after a chaotic toddler.

If you’re on a small budget, or perhaps your little one is insisting on buying Mummy something themselves, head down to your local supermarket. There are some great items on offer at great prices, including these iced gingerbread biscuits from Tesco. At just 90p each there are a great little token. They are nice and big and taste delicious, though you may have to prize them from your child’s hands if you want to eat it yourself. If gingerbread isn’t your thing go down to Asda and get hold of a new mug. All Mums need some form of caffeine to get them through the day, so a nice “Great Mum” mug is a certain winner. You can even get one for Grandma whilst you’re there. There’s also a lovely Alfie The Giraffe “Special Mum” soft toy available which any mother would treasure.

If your Mum needs a bit of pampering and you want to get her something that will last throughout the year, what about a subscription to Birchbox. Recently arrived from the USA, Birchbox is a monthly beauty box delivered straight to your door. Each box contains a selection of sample size beauty products for you to test out, and then there is a separate online store where you can buy full sized items which you love. I received the now sold old February box myself and I was very impressed. Beautifully packaged it contained, amongst other things, a pair of eyelash curlers, some Nick Chavez Beverly Hills Plump N’Thick Leave-In Thickening Mist, and Korres Guava Shower Gel. You are getting introduced to new and exciting brands and products you may not have heard of and used before, and all for just £10 per month delivered. A great treat for any mum.

If you can’t make it to see your Mum this Mothers Day and you want to send her something that little bit different to let her know you are thinking about her send her a decadent Cream Tea By Post. Distributed by Fanny’s Farm Shop these cream teas are delicious. With options of sending them for 1, 2 or 4 people, or even including mugs to drink the tea from, the sets make a lovely gift. We willingly tested out the cream tea for 2 and it was gorgeous. It arrived beautifully packaged and instead of being packed with bubble wrap or endless polystyrene it was protected with popcorn. A great eco-friendly packing which you can feed to your garden birds, so they get a little treat too. The scones were really nice and I loved the fact that the jam was homemade. Plenty of clotted cream is also supplied which made my day – I tend to go a little overboard so was fully satisfied. A truly unique and special treat.

This dainty bone china jam jar would make a great gift is you’re planning on creating your own Afternoon Tea this Mothers Day, or perhaps taking your Mum breakfast in bed. Beautifully made and decorated with a strawberry by Sophie Allport. The lid features a gap for your spoon, making this a very quaint addition to any table or tray. Part of the Strawberries and Cream range, a complete set would make a table look stunning, and last for many years to come.

Hotter are well known for their range of gorgeous and incredibly comfortable footwear, and they’ve featured on my website many times. What they are perhaps less known for is their range of handbags. The bags are of the same superior quality you’d expect from Hotter and one would make a great gift this Mothers Day. This is the Maui bag which is great for travelling. Its got a large zipped pocket, a small button fastened pocket and then a hidden pocket on the back. The hidden pocket is ideal for passports, tickets and other travel documents. It would also make a lovely day-to-day bag. It doesn’t have an enormous capacity so you couldn’t use it if you had your small children in tow, but for those child-free days or if you want your things separate to the changing bag, it would be perfect. You can also check out the new Hotter advert and shop from it at their website.

Review: Photo Cufflinks From Ring Jewellery, Brighton

Little Man was very sneaky this Christmas, and managed to get Daddy a rather special gift. Okay so he had a little help from Mummy, but Daddy was very impressed with what he got to unwrap on Christmas morning. The wonderful Ring Jewellery in Brighton sent Daddy some new cufflinks to wear to work. But they weren’t any cufflinks. They were very special and very personal cufflinks.

This is one of Daddy’s favourite pictures of Little Man, which was taken on a recent holiday to the New Forest we all took in September.

It was a totally impromptu shot, but I think Little Man looks great and when Ring Jewellery contacted us, it became the ideal photo for them to use to make a very special gift for Daddy this Christmas. Here’s the finished cufflinks.

You simply provide Ring Jewellery with your image and decide whether you want the cufflinks to be round or square, or silver or gold. We went for a round silver style and I think you’ll agree they look brilliant.

Now Daddy isn’t the only person with his own set of personal cufflinks. Celebrity clients include Mark Ronson, Theo Walcott and Graham Norton, so he’s in pretty good company.

If you live in the Brighton area head into their shop to find out more about their bespoke pieces, or check out their website. You can also find them on Twitter @RingJewellers.

Review: The White Company Candle

If you are looking for any last minute gifts and don’t fancy braving the insane high streets today, you have until 6pm Saturday to get your order in with The White Company for delivery on Christmas Eve. The White Company sells a beautiful array of items for the home, and if you’re still looking for that ‘Perfect Little Present’ for someone look no further than their selection of candles.

We have a few scented candles in the house – in the bathrooms primarily – but their Orange Grove Signature Candle would make a delicious addition to any lounge this festive period. It has a zesty scent as you would expect, but there are also undertones of an earthy smell, which makes it an uplifting and comforting fragrance. I think the orange scent is lovely at this time of year and it has pride of place on our new mantelpiece. I expect it will get lit frequently during Christmas, and with 28 hours burning time there is plenty opportunity.

The Signature Candles range – which includes Orange Grove, Flowers, Pomegranate and more – cost £20 each and are available online or, if you’re feeling brave, from stores across the country. I suggest you get to their website before 6pm Saturday and place your order from the comfort of your sofa!

Have A Trunki Christmas…

For any last minute shoppers out there you can’t go wrong with a gift from Trunki this Christmas. To start you off, here are their Top 5 Toybox Fillers…

And in case you’re after any more encouragement – and a cute photo – here’s my Little Man modelling his new SnooziHedz friend, Milo.

The SnooziHedz is a great friend to take in the car. It comes as a cuddly pal your little one can just hold, but when nap time approaches they can use it as a pillow. They can also remove the blanket which is inside their pal to make sure they keep nice and warm, just as my Little Man is doing here. There is also an inflatable pillow included which can be returned to the empty SnooziHedz to make it nice and comfy. I can’t seem to encourage Little Man to use the pillow, but he was definitely nice and cosy under his blanket. There is even a pocket on the blanket – the grey face section above – for your little one to pop a teddy in, or even their hands if you use the blanket in their pushchair. A fabulous multi-functioning item, and yet another amazing invention from Trunki.

Baby Stationery from CLD Stationery

The birth of a new baby is an amazing time in any parents life and no doubt you want to shout it from the rooftops and tell everyone you know about your newest addition. What you don’t want to be doing though if wasting those precious early moments with a phone glued to your ear ringing around friends and relations, nor do you want to start writing emails to those friends that do have internet access and notes to those without. You want to spend every possible moment bonding with the latest addition to your little family. Its time to turn to CLD Stationery and get your babies birth announced quickly, easily and rather stylishly.

Birth Announcements cards aren’t a new idea, but I love the quality and style from CLD Stationery. They’re not the cheapest, but you definitely get what you pay for. You have the option of cards with photos of your little bundle on, or just simple text. There are colour options and text options, and you can get cards which are ready to send out immediately, or that have room for a short note of your own. Here are a few of my favourites.

I especially like the one in the top left corner. I love the simple yet striking appearance of just text on the card, whilst including all relevant details – gender, name, date of birth, weight and time of birth. Its clear and simple but looks really stylish. I think if you ordered a set and had one spare it would look great in a frame hanging on the wall of your newest arrival.

You can find a full range of Birth Announcement cards on the CLD Stationery website.

Once your little bundles arrival has been announced its inevitable that a steady stream of gifts and tokens will begin to arrive. You have to be hugely organised when items arrive, and make sure you make a note of who sent you what. Then as soon as you can manage you need to start thinking about Thank You cards. Again thanks by email and text are just very impersonal so a lovely Baby Thank You Card from CLD Stationery could just do the trick.

These are available with either gender specific borders of small motifs in the corners. They’re not huge so you wont end up having to write lots on each card, but there is plenty space to thank every relative or friend that sent something to mark your new babies arrival.

I can’t recall what we did when Little Man was born to announce his birth – I think it may have been something totally impersonal like a photo on Facebook – but should we find ourselves with the need to announce a birth again in the future, I think we’ll be taking a look at CLD Stationery for something a little more stylish.

You can find all the CLD Stationery collection now on their website.

Tips On Buying The Perfect Christmas Gift…

From a new sweater to edible underpants, a bottle of vintage Rioja to a state-of-the-art iPod, when it comes to buying Christmas presents knowing what to buy our loved ones can be a mind-boggling predicament. Will they like it? Have they already got it? Is this the right size? All these questions occupy our thoughts as we battle through the Christmas shopping crowds desperately trying to find the one we love the perfect gift.

The good news is that buying Christmas presents needn’t be such a struggle and help is at hand with these following tips.

Shop online

To avoid the crowds, queues and general Christmas run-up consumer madness, why not shop online? You can browse through all the leading retailers at your leisure, with your feet up and shopping for Christmas gifts in such a relaxed and stress-free manner, means that you will be less rushed and therefore less likely to make a Christmas gift blunder.

Most retailers now offer online shopping to consumers, for example you can buy many great Christmas gifts from Waitrose on the Internet without even having to leave your armchair.

Ask your partner what they would like for Christmas

Avoid having to battle through the even more densely populated shopping malls, supermarkets and retail parks in the post-Christmas sales because that dress you bought your wife was too small, or your boyfriend doesn’t like that particular aftershave or granddad’s slippers don’t fit, by simply asking your loved ones what they would like for Christmas.

In times of such economic hardship why should we waste our precious pennies on Christmas gifts that get discarded to one side as soon as they are opened? Avoid this incredibly common dilemma by simply asking loved ones what they would like for Christmas.

Food can be a firm Christmas gift favourite

When we buy clothes for somebody for Christmas, the chances are that they won’t fit properly. When we buy somebody a new CD, a fashionable gadget, or a kitchen appliance or something else for the home, the chances are they have already got one or simply don’t like what you’ve bought them. If you know someone well enough, the chances you will know what they like eat. Food can therefore make a great Christmas gift as filling your loved ones stomach with their favourite nibble or topple is bound to go down well on Christmas Day.

Product Review: Swizzels Matlow’s Lovehearts

Love is in the air…

Yes Valentines Day is just around the corner – its next Tuesday all you men out there – so you’ve no doubt spotted that your local card shop has had an explosion of red and pink inside it. Some of you might be wondering what to get your other halves, or maybe are after some inspiration for keeping the children entertained. Well Swizzels Matlow sent me a goody bag of their new Lovehearts collection, released in time for Valentines Day, to take a look at.

First up is a Limited Edition Tin of Mini Love Hearts. The Love Hearts in the tin are about half the size of the traditional ones, but still contain all the usual cute phrases and terms. Next came a tube filled with mini packets of full sized Love Hearts. The tube bears the “I Love You” text down the side. Both ideal gifts for that special man or woman in your life.

We also received a pack of four giant rolls of Love Hearts, again in their full size. Now whilst I don’t think these make particularly interesting gifts as they are, I decided to try something with them that will hopefully keep your children entertained, and be fun at the same time.

Now who doesn’t love a cupcake? I made a tray of mini cupcakes complete with buttercream icing and adorned them with Love Hearts. Perfect if you’re hosting a party for Valentines Day or perhaps your children want to use them as gifts to their sweethearts? Or maybe you just want to eat them yourself! Whatever your excuse, they take no time at all and taste delicious. Little Man certainly enjoyed his… minus the Love Heart of course.

You can view and buy the entire Love Hearts range from their website.
