Review: Regimental Jacket from me&i

You might recall that earlier in the year I previewed some of the new Spring Summer range from me&i. Well as they prepare to welcome the new Autumn Winter range in there are still a few pieces left to last you through the Summer and beyond. My absolute favourite of those pieces is this Regimental Jacket, and the lovely team at me&i sent me one to review.

khaki green military style jacket worn over white topI just love this on trend double breasted jacket in a gorgeous khaki colour with silver buttons. Its perfect for Spring and Autumn when the days are a little cooler, but also for the warm Summer nights ahead when the evenings get a little chillier than the balmy days. This jacket looks gorgeous teamed with jeans and a tshirt, making it a staple for Mums on the go, but its also smart enough to look great on a night out with the girls. As you can see from the picture is looks great fastened, but even when its left open it still looks very classy.

I love the colour, the shape and the design. I love the fact that it contains elastane which gives it a comfortable amount of stretch, whilst looking sleek and fitted when you’re wearing it. At £65 its not a cheap jacket but it is a long lasting one. I can see me wearing this well in to the Autumn and early next year. Its already had plenty wear this summer because its so versatile. It goes with so many things I own and so can be just pulled on as you head out the door.

I can’t wait to see what me&i have in store for us this Autumn Winter season – hopefully the weather won’t take us there too soon!

Spring Summer Range From me&i

The brand new Spring Summer range is out now for Swedish retailer me&i. Here are my favourite pieces, including a couple of things for Mum as well. You’ll find all these pieces and more on their website now.

This medallion dress is perfect for summer. Brightly coloured and made from a quality jersey material its sure to provide a comfortable fit. The tie string at the back allows for a defined waist and despite being sleeveless the wide straps provide good coverage.

The military style jacket is great for mums on the go. Its very on trend and although military in styling has a feminine cut to it. It is double breasted and a nice fitted feel to it, but looks just as good open as fastened.

This A-line tunic is a cute one for any little girl. It has elasticated edging at the neck and sleeves to make getting dressed and undressed easy, and the contrasting piping detail on the pockets really makes them stand out. The adorable velour panda peeping out of one pocket is a lovely feature and one I’m sure children will love.

Little Man is definitely going through a dinosaur loving faze at the moment so he would adore this t shirt. Brightly coloured and comfortable to wear its a lovely unisex t shirt for the summer. I love the way the orange dinosaurs stand out against the turquiose background.

We own the long sleeved t shirt version of this cute bodysuit which was a hugely popular part of the Autumn Winter range last year. I’m sure this bodysuit will be just as popular. Multi-coloured vehicles facing in all directions make this a great bright item, and the green trim frames the whole thing nicely.

If your little one is a fan of “helping” with DIY tasks around the house – Little Man certainly is – then this is the t shirt for them. A solid black background with bright outlines of an array of tools makes this the ideal outfit for helping out in. Again a bright contrast trim on the collar and cuffs sets of the t shirt beautifully.

New Year, New You: Maxitone Pack

I’m sure I’m not the only person who is thinking more about healthy eating and exercise this new year. It happens every January. We all think about the mountains of cakes, chocolate and other treats we’ve devoured over the festive period and proclaim that this year will be different, and that we’re going to eat better and exercise more. And I’m sure I’m not the only person who fails completely at this every January. This year however I’m on a slightly different mission, thanks to the team at Maxitone.

This January I’m not looking to lose weight. I’ve always been a slim size 10 and generally have never weighed enough according to medical charts and BMI calculators. Even when I was pregnant I didn’t put much extra weight on at all, and must confess to being out of my maternity jeans and back in to my regular ones within a couple of weeks, or at least until the appendicitis hit and I was back into my elasticated waist jeans again whilst I recovered. Two years on and I’m still have a slim width figure, but like all Mums I no longer have anything approaching a flat stomach. There is that little lump that is the sign of motherhood as much as grey hairs and bags under your eyes. Glamorous isn’t it?

So I’m on a mission to get toned. I’m clearly never going to have perfectly flat stomach as I just don’t have the motivation, or the desire, to do hundreds of sit ups every day. What I do have the motivation to do however is follow the Maxitone Definity Toning program. Armed with a tub of Definity Strawberry Shake and a box of Definity Crisp Bars I have the right drink and snack to have following exercise. My exercise will come courtesy of The Firm’s range – a Power Ball Kit and a Cardio-To-Go set. Thankfully I also have a rather nice pampering set from Sanctuary Spa to use when relaxing is called for.

I don’t plan on doing a blow-by-blow account of my toning mission, but I will let you all know how things are going and how good, or not, the products I’m using are.

Maxitone are also running a competition to be the face of the brand this year. Sign up online and share your “Thank You Protein” moment – maybe getting your body confidence back thanks to your Mum’s help, running 5K with your best friend, or losing weight for you wedding – for a chance of winning a years supply of products, a years gym membership, a private training session with Charlotte Ord, and seeing your face on Maxitone advertisements this year. Go to http://www.maxitone.com/thankyou to sign up!

“The Motherhood”

Posted by SussexMummy | Posted in Information | Posted on 16-12-2012

Motherhood is one of the most amazing, challenging, rewarding and wonderful roles a woman can undertake in her life. We’re all mothers here, and whilst I’m sure you all agree with that sentiment, we can all agree that life isn’t always plain sailing.  Our lives are changed forever from the moment we get that positive test, and changed beyond comprehension from the moment we hold that little bundle in our arms for the first time.  I think we can all agree that there is nothing glamorous or easy about Motherhood.

The fantastic team at Fiat have come up with this great fun video that I think depicts life in “The Motherhood” to a tee.

I was in hysterics after watching that for the first time, but I was also nodding along with most of what was being said.

I think most mornings begin with a dropped bowl of cereal doesn’t it? Sticky clutter covering most surfaces, comparing horror birth stories and scars, leaky breasts and expressing milk, and the end to ever leaving the house with clean clothes or handbags again. Body hangups and the latest diets, a sudden and intense knowledge of all children’s TV characters, balancing work and life, and the 101 roles a mother now has each and every day. And really, do we mothers have any topic of conversation that doesn’t revolve around our children? My Twitter feed certainly doesn’t suggest we do.

We’ve ALL been there, and as the video reminds us, we’re all there for good.

The best things that comes from this video for me is the obvious pride of the mother in it. Yes, she’s complaining about the end of life as she knows it, the end of her body being her own, and the fact that she hasn’t slept for months. But the line “I wear my nursing bra like a bullet proof vest” is brilliant. She is fighting and battling every day, but she is proud. Life is hard. Life is a permanent challenge. But we are all proud. We are all proud to be parents, to be mothers, to be part of this great community, this amazingly supportive community.

Life is chaotic and messy and loud and relentless and constant and stressful and pressured.

And I know that none of us would change that for the world.

Guest Post: What Does Mum REALLY Want For Christmas?

What does Mum really want for Christmas?

With the festive season being one of the busiest times of the year for parents, what does Mum really want for Christmas? Expensive jewellery? Perfume? A new car? Most mothers probably just want the big day to go without a hitch! Happy children, delicious food and the joy of everyone enjoying their presents as the family relaxes would probably be enough to satisfy mothers up and down the UK as Christmas looms juts around the corner.

Christmas is a special time for children. Jumping on the bed at 5am asking if Santa has been yet, the sheer thrill and shriek of delight as they open their presents, singing and munching on yummy food are all part of the excitement. But it takes a lot of work in the build up to Christmas.

After all the planning, putting up the Christmas decorations, budgeting and saving for presents, Christmas shopping, wrapping presents and either cooking or assisting with the cooking – it is no wonder that Mum is exhausted before even sitting down to Christmas lunch! Then once the meal is over, keeping the kids amused until they go back to school in January while trying to work can be a significant challenge.

While Christmas is a very special time for everyone, if Mum is doing a lot of the work behind the scenes to make everything perfect, maybe some great ideas are needed to make Christmas easier and less stressful, why not find out more here.

Perhaps all Mum really wants for Christmas is to be happy, to have a happy family and for a chance to relax and recuperate herself after a busy year? This is something that all the family can help with and if Mum has been the one doing a lot of the work to make the season magical, why not help to make things a little easier? Thanking her for all of her efforts is not a great deal to ask for is it?

Christmas is always more fun if everyone joins in so everyone should play their part in the festivities – help with the shopping, offer to help with food preparation, come up with gift ideas, write out some Christmas cards, put some of the decorations up and put them away carefully after Christmas – anything that helps to make the season go more smoothly!

Your Mum may have spent most of the year preparing for Christmas, so try making her Christmas just as perfect by thanking her for everything she has done!

Guest Post: Mum Essentials – Coffee Machines

Posted by SussexMummy | Posted in Guest Post, Information, Sponsored Posts | Posted on 19-06-2012

Being a mum is a full-on job, as we all know, and a steady flow of coffee is the only way many of us make it through the day. When instant coffee just won’t do it, it’s tempting to pick up a coffee machine, but some of these machines involve a complicated multi-step process that requires a certain level of caffeination to master in the morning. Step back and invest in a simple machine that will keep you going with the minimum of effort – here are four of our favourite picks for easy capsule coffee makers.
Illy x7.1
This super-stylish Italian machine has a retro design that looks great in the kitchen, and uses Illycapsules to brew perfect espresso with the touch of a button. Make espresso or longer drinks, and use the milk frother to cut down on your prep time in the morning. Capsule machines cut down on clean up time (no ground coffee all over the countertop) and offer quick and tasty results.
Lavazza A Modo Mio Piccina
This small coffee machine takes up very little counter space but packs a big punch. It uses Lavazza coffee capsules to brew a quick cup, and the 4-cup capacity is perfect for when you have company. It also has a hot water tank for making tea, so this multi-tasker is ideal for families.
Nescafe Krups Dolce Gusto Piccolo
These small machines use capsules of pre-ground Arabica coffee to create a range of drinks from coffee to a cappuccino. The main benefit of the Piccolo is the incredibly simple interface, which involves sliding a lever to determine what strength of coffee you need that day (kids at school: single cup of milky coffee; mother in law visiting: triple espresso).
GaggiaUnica Bean-to-cup
If you’re serious about espresso, this all-in-one GaggiaUnica coffee maker takes you all the way from whole bean to aromatic crema. Pour your beans in the top and grind them to your desired consistency, then use the easy control panel to select which coffee drink you want. It contains a built-in milk steamer and hot water function, but best of all, the cup area is adjustable so it can accommodate your favourite giant mug.

We bought this last week for Little Man to give him somewhere to sit whilst colouring or playing with his Lego or puzzles:
This desk for Pkolino currently retails for £79.99 from Amazon. I got it through Zulily for just £45, and it was delivered this morning 10 days after ordering. A sturdy flat packed desk which is suitable from age 2 up to around 6 – so a great investment too.

Ordering from Zulily is simple and you pay just one postage charge per day, so if you order something in the morning then have another browse later on you will get free delivery on anything else ordered before midnight.
