Right As Rain…

Is it me or is it always raining at the moment? Particularly when its time for the school run? The showers seem to always kick off just as I step out of my car, and it generally results in a wet mummy and two wet boys. I’m beginning to think I need to start leaving emergency rain gear in the car at all times. I mean I tend to have coats lying around in the car anyway, I just never seem to have the right coat for the right conditions. Clearly I need to be more organised.

The lovely Joules have a new “Right As Rain” range out at the moment, perfect for the inclement British weather, with designs sure to brighten up our school run. I am severely tempted to get my boys matching coats for the first time and purchase two of these Showerproof Jackets.
Joules-SharkI think my boys would look super cute in these, though Little Dude might have to wait till he’s a bit bigger first. Joules, you need to make this in a size 2 years please! I think the Shark print is really cool and no doubt my boys would look gorgeous in this coat. There are of course beautiful patterns for the girls too but I don’t think my boys would be particularly keen to wear this, do you?

Joules-GirlsCoat

Maybe a bit too floral for their liking. Now of course if the boys are getting cute coats then surely Mummy deserves one too… best go take a look hadn’t I?

Colour Changing offer a wide range of products which, as the name suggests, change colour. They sent me a couple of items to try out, and offer my readers the chance to win.

UV Nail Polish: Apricot to Red Apple
The first product was a nail varnish. This nail varnish brushes on like any other and is a soft apricot colour when it dries. You need to use this varnish as either a top coat or alone because when you go out into the sun and the UV rays hit your nails it transforms into a bright red apple shade! Made by Solar Active the varnish is strong and chip resistant, as well as providing UV protection to avoid discolouration. It is removable with any usual varnish remover. Whilst its a fun product to wear – ideal for parties, fancy dress or dressing up games with little girls – its not something to wear everyday. The colour change is fast and very impressive, but I don’t think its something to go to work wearing for example!

London Skyline Colour Changing Umbrella
Next up was an umbrella. Living in the UK means it rains more often than not, so an umbrella is a handbag essential. There is no reason however for that umbrella to be dull. This black and white umbrella features a white silhouette of the London skyline around the edge. As it rains and the umbrella becomes wet the white skyline turns a mix of bright colours. Designed by Squid Of London, and inspired by Jackson Pollack, this is more than an umbrella, its a functional piece of art. As someone who visits London regularly and has been caught out in more than my fair share of rain showers, this is now a permanent feature in my handbag!

Competition!
To win your choice of colour changing nail varnish AND a London skyline umbrella just head over to the Colour Changing Facebook page and “Like” it . Then head back here and let me know you’ve done it by commenting below. A winner will be chosen from all entries on Friday 28th September received by 8pm.

Summer Holiday Essentials: Waterproofs

Sad isn’t it, that in a series on holiday essentials the need for waterproofs is there? Well I think we’ll all agree that after recent inclement weather that we could all do with a pair of these:
These Rain Trousers from Polarn O Pyret are perfect for when your little one decides they want to go out and about in all the puddles. They come with adjustable braces and elasticated straps for underneath their feet. They also have reflectors on the front and back in case you’re out walking in gloomy weather.

We got a pair of these in size 2-4 years for Little Man – he’s just 20 months – but we thought he can grow into them, and he’s really going to have to. If he wears them now he can’t see where he’s going as they are so long they cover his face – its quite a sight, believe me – but this winter these are going to be great for him, and they will go on to fit him for years to come, making them a great investment. They are so well made that even the most boisterous of boys – and to be honest its IS always the boys – won’t be able to damage them.

These trousers are available in Navy Blue or Poppy Red and are machine washable at 40. You can find them in store or online.

Product Review: Mama’s & Papa’s Trek Lightweight Buggy

So Little Man has been walking – alarmingly confidently at that – for a couple of months now, and with summer coming – hopefully – we’ve been considering a second pushchair. Something lighter which he can easily get in to and out of, and something that takes up a little less boot space. We’re going to Devon in a few weeks on holiday so we’re going to need all the boot space we can get for toys and clothes, so we don’t want three quarters of it taken up by a pram he’s becoming increasingly reluctant to stay in.

The range of lightweight buggies seems about as large and daunting as the range of prams was when we bought ours almost two years ago. The prices are often equally scary too – I’m not a cheapskate, especially when it comes to my Little Man, but I’m not paying more for a lightweight buggy than we did for an entire travel system! I wanted something that cost less than £100 and starting thinking I was asking for too much, but we had our “Eureka!” moment in Mama’s & Papa’s – the Trek in Marine Dots.
This lightweight buggy features a five point harness, large shopping baskets, and optional weather pack which contains a rain cover and hood. The backrest is easy to adjust and there are three height options for the harness. It is suitable from 6months to a maximum weight of 15kg, so should easily see us through the toddler years. The buggy costs £45 and the weather pack is £20, making this a very affordable buggy system. The Trek is also available in a pink “Candy Dots” option for the girls. My only criticism is the rain cover – it attaches beautifully using poppers down the side, but it basically only covers from the brim of the hood down the front, meaning that the hood of the buggy itself is still getting wet, as is anything in the shopping basket. Little Man stays nice and dry though!

This is still a brilliant buggy though, and one that is ideal for holidays and days out. Here’s is Little Man modelling just how comfortable it is during a recent trip to Paulton’s Park when it was a little more summer like:

All together now “Awwwww!”

The Trek Lightweight Buggy is available now from your local Mama’s & Papa’s Store, and online.
