Foodie: The Perfect Cocktail

I am assured that winter is now over and we’ve got summer on the horizon. For me summer is the perfect time to get out in the garden with family and friends and enjoy the warm sunny weather. Picnics and barbecues aplenty, and lots of relaxing in the long evenings with a glass of something nice. There’s something about summer that makes me want the occasional cocktail, and the most affordable way to enjoy one is to make your own. The team at Spa Breaks have created this little video on how to make the perfect cocktail.

From measuring your spirits, to decorating your glassware, to the excitement of setting your cocktail on fire (sort of..), the video has lots of tips and hints for creating your perfect summer drink. None of the equipment used is particularly hard to come by – most kitchen stores sell cocktail shaker sets, measurers and juicers – and with a bit of creativity you can even try making your own. Blindfolded taste testing is entirely optional, of course.

So come on hot summer weather – I quite fancy sipping a homemade Mojito in my garden this year. What about you?

“The Fatherhood”

You’ll all no doubt remember the “Motherhood” video which featured on my website a few months ago which was created by the team at Fiat. It was hugely popular and caused somewhat of a stir amongst mums across the country – mainly for its alarming realism. Well the team at Fiat are back with a sequel, and this time its the turn of the dads. If you’re about to become a father, you may want to look away now…

Mums don’t have it easy, but I think we can all agree that Dads have problems of their own when the first child comes along. We have friends who struggled getting their children to sleep at night like the couple at the start of this video, and they too sent Dad out every night to drive around the local area. And sometimes the local few counties. For about three hours.

Whilst I’m sure every father sees their child or children as a blessing – when they’re asleep anyway – I suspect they do miss their old life too. After a few sleepless nights I’m sure all new fathers wonder what day or time it is, what on earth they are doing driving around at 3am, and who that tired looking person looking back at them in the mirror is. Maybe we should start sharing our concealer with the men in our lives?

The elimination of sex is often the much complained about part of fatherhood, so that takes its rightful place within this brilliant video. Comments about the “last fun act”, considering future “abstinence” and my favourite line about “doubling up on the rubber” in order to prevent further incidents. But then again, its a little tricky to partake when you “drive all night” just to get your little ones to sleep isn’t it!

Watch out too for the cheeky cameo for our “book club joining” star of the Motherhood video, just before Dad finally makes it home with his two darling children asleep… just in time for the police siren to wake them up again. We’ve all been there haven’t we?

Everyone’s life changes when a baby arrives, whether you are facing Mother or Fatherhood for the first time. Sleepless nights, bags under your eyes, and errant urine are just the start. But lets face it, things can only get better can’t they?

Product Review: Galt Playnest

The ‘Galt Toy of The Month For July’ was their ever popular Playnest. Now I know what you’re thinking – its August! Well as you are all aware my blog host went crazy for a week and the site went down so I failed to upload this in time, but I’m going for the “better late than never” approach. I’d just like to thank the people at Galt for their patience.

So, the Playnest is an inflatable ring that fits inside an interactive material cover. There is also a quilted centre for your little one to sit or lie on in comfort. The ring can be inflated to different levels depending on the age and development of your child – partially inflated for newborn head support, and fully inflated when your child can sit up. There are eight activities around the ring with a variety of textures and sounds to keep your little one entertained.

My Little Man was sent the ‘Jungle’ design to play with, which was perfect because there is a distinctly jungle theme to his bedroom and toys! Now at nine and half months my Little Man is bordering on too big for this, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t have fun playing it. I loved the fact that I could plonk him in it if the door went and I knew he wouldn’t go on a rampage. Whilst he isn’t demonstrating a desire to crawl yet (Lazy Boy) he does wriggle and roll his way around. The Playnest gives me somewhere safe to deposit him in a hurry. This would have been a brilliant product from birth – I only wish I’d bought one then!

Now Galt requested a video review, so my Hubby took this footage of Little Man in the Playnest so he is entirely responsible for the dubious camera work and the low flying toys!!
