Review: Zaini Hats & Headbands

Rumour has it that we’re about to have two weeks of arctic weather conditions. Now I generally don’t tend to believe weather forecasts like this, its normally hilariously wrong, but in case you think stocking up on warm weather gear is a good idea, take a look at Zaini.

Zaini Hats and Headbands are hand crocheted by creator Miranda Harper who wanted bright, warm and stylish headgear to wear whilst skiing in Switzerland, and wearing in cold winters in Scotland. She made her own, and now the brand has exploded. Celebrity fans now include JLS and One Direction, and I even got my Dad one for Christmas. What greater endorsement do you need?

The hats and headbands are made from 100% super soft acrylic yarn which means they don’t itch and irritate, they feel cashmere soft, and they are also able to withstand winter weather. I love the super bright colours and fun designs. Here’s the one I got my Dad for Christmas, as well as the headband I got myself for those cold mornings to come:

As well as a range for adults, Zaini has now got an online store for the kids too. With sizes ranging to suit children between the ages of 1-11, available in a range of colours there really is a Zaini hat for every child no matter what size or style! Here’s my favourite:

To view the full Zaini ranges for adults and children, head over to their online stores now. You can also find them on Twitter @ZainiHats and @ZainiKids.

Beat The Flu This Winter!

Well the weather has certainly taken a dramatic downward turn hasn’t it? Its been chilly for a while but its now decidedly wetter and more miserable out there today. I don’t think a day has gone by in recent weeks when someone or other on Twitter has commented that they or their other halves have been struck down with a cold, and its not really surprising with the weather like it is. Here are a few suggestions to help prevent, or help beat, any colds or flu that might strike your family this winter.

Prevention is better than cure, so eating healthily is a great way to boost your immune system and battle the bugs before they attack. Vitamin supplements are also a great way to give your body that extra fight so think about taking Vitamin C & Zinc. This supplement, with a balanced diet, helps boost your immune system but can also help reduce tiredness and fatigue – something I’m sure we’d all benefit from! You can also take Vitamin E which protects your bodies cells, and is especially beneficial to older people. If you’re particularly concerned about catching Flu this winter – maybe due to age or other medical issues – you may wish to consider a flu jab, which you can now get at your local Asda for just £7.

If you are unfortunate enough to get a cold or flu this winter there are some great affordable medicines out there which you can take. Most branded cold and flu relief is pretty pricey, especially if you need to take it for more than a few days. Cold & Flu Relief Capsules from Asda come in packs of 16 and cost just 65p – less than a quarter of the price of a leading branded packet containing the same number and the same ingredients. There is also a range of hot fruit drinks and decongestants available too.

So next time you are in your local Asda or perhaps doing your online food shop take a look at these great value items which could just save you a winter of coughing and sneezing!

Joe Browns was set up to provide something that little bit different from other clothing catalogues, and when you flick through their book or browse their online store that difference is clear. Their clothes are a lifestyle choice. You won’t find anything in the Joe Brown catalogue that you might find similar somewhere else. Joe Browns clothes are distinctive and add something a bit special and unique to your wardrobe.

This Easy Livin’ Dress is one of my favourites from the new Autumn/Winter range. A knitted pointelle top with two handy front pockets and a floral hem which gives the appearance of layers, this top is perfect for the cold season. On chillier days paired with dark jeans and boots, or on those rare warmer Autumn days worn with brown or black leggings. This top is ideal for casual day wear, or can be dressed up and accessorised for a night out at the local pub with friends.

The Joe Browns summer sale is currently on where you can snap up a few last minute bargains whilst the late summer just about lasts. I found these great Floral Espadrille Pumps.

They are SO comfortable and extremely versatile. Pottering around the house, hitting the high street shopping, lazy evenings in the pub or out for a date – these shoes will get you through most events and gathering, and you’ll wonder how you ever survived without them.

The NEW Autumn/Winter range is available now from the Joe Browns website, and there are still a few bargains to be had in the sale!

Disclaimer: I received the items mentioned above to review from Joe Browns, but all opinions are my own and were not affected by the company.

I love finding new products for my Little Man, or for me. Its great to discover products that make you say “Why didn’t I think of that?” and wonder how you ever coped before. Here is a selection of my recent finds, all of which deserve a place under your Christmas tree this year.

Bundle Bean
I’ve never been particularly impressed with cosy toes. The idea is great but they become a bit of a faff to put on to your buggy, and I find if I just leave them on all the time you can’t fold your pram properly. Suddenly the day warms up and your little one is left sweltering in a fleece-lined pocket and it all gets a bit much. Bring in the Bundle Bean!! Dubbed the “5-in-1 waterproof fleece blanket” I know for a fact that the genius designer of this product thinks this is closer to 105-in-1. There is so much you can do with this clever, yet fairly simple, item.

A short zip along either side at the bottom cause the blanket to gather up meaning it fits snuggly to the base of your pram, and then the top corners are secured using two elasticated straps and velcro. I like to secure mine fairly high up on my pushchair so my Little Man is all cosy and warm. It takes seconds to fit, and should the weather suddenly become hot (fat chance!) or you go inside a warm shop (more likely) you can whip it off again without any effort. Just today my Little Man dozed off under his cosy blanket as we went Christmas shopping – and who can blame him?

As well as fitting pushchairs, the Bundle Bean also fits (using the same zip method) to children’s seats on adult bikes, car seats, forward facing carriers (note the pockets on the front for your hands!) and can be used as a picnic blanket when fully unzipped. We’ve also tested it out on our framed back carrier and it fit that too – I’ll try and remember to take a photo of it next time we use it (oops!)

Bundle Beans are available direct from their website and comes in three colours – blue, black and pink. Look out for new colours being added to the range next year.

Buggy Guard Pram Lock
Do you ever go out with your little one in their buggy and decide to go into a cafe for lunch, only to discover the cafe isn’t big enough for your buggy aswell? How about when you go on the school run, or take your little one to nursery? What about when you’re at a theme park and you want to go on a ride, but you can’t take your buggy on? Or at the zoo? Wouldn’t it be great if you could leave your buggy unattended for half an hour or so and know for a fact that it will still be there when you get back? The Buggy Guard Pram Lock gives you security and peace of mind, and it looks rather cute too!

Yes this cute little chap – also available in other great animal designs – will stand guard and protect your buggy from would-be thieves. No really! The buggy guard comes with a four feet long cable that you can loop around your buggy and then to a railing, a row of other buggies, or any stationary object. To unlock your buggy guard just use the number code which you can set very easily yourself. You can even write your little ones name on the bow tie of the animal so they know which one is there’s.

We used the buggy guard recently at Drusillas Park. There is a buggy park for when you go and ride on the Thomas The Tank Engine Steam Train, but its not very secure. We attached our buggy to the railings using our buggy guard and it meant that we could all ride the train, instead of one parent being left behind.

Details of where to buy Buggy Guards are available on their website.

Sleep Tight Genius Soother Holder
Now I must admit when I first saw this I was a little sceptical but I am thrilled to have been proved wrong. This soother holder fits through a hole in the specially designed cot sheet and is secured there with a short strap, fixed to a longer strap which loops around the mattress. You attach your little ones dummy to the holder and they can always find it, and there won’t be a permanent pile of dummies underneath the cot or randomly around the floor! My Little Man was dreadful for throwing his dummy around at night. We moved his cot out of his room once and found six beneath it – I didn’t even realise we owned that many dummies! The soother holder doesn’t come with a dummy meaning that parents can use whichever brand baby is familiar with.

We’ve been using the Sleep Tight Genius Soother Holder now for a couple of months. To start with it was just used to keep the dummy securely in the cot, but now when you put Little Man to bed he wriggles up the cot, pops his dummy in himself, settles down and goes to sleep. Every night. Now I wish I could provide you with a video of him doing this as its so cute, but I’m sure you’ll appreciate that distracting him when he’s going to be isn’t something I’m keen to do. I am going to try and get a photo of the holder in action during one of his daytime naps but again there’s the distraction factor. If you go to the website – linked below – you can see adorable YouTube footage of the soother holder in action. I highly recommend you take a look.

The Sleep Tight Genius Soother Holder is one of my favourite finds. Dummies are only used in our house at nap and bed time but Hubby and I grew weary of constantly scrabbling around on the floor trying to find them all and often having none clean to use. The holder has ensured that this doesn’t happen any more, but has also give Little Man a bit of independence at bed time. It is funny when we check on him before we go to bed and find him in a selection of bizarre sleep positions, but with his dummy firmly in his mouth. I’m not sure if its helping him sleep – he’s pretty much always been a good sleeper – but it certainly makes all our lives a little bit easier, and that’s all we can really ask for!

Sleep TIght Genius Soother Holder’s are available direct from their website in a range of colours and sizes to fit all cots.

Product Review: Snuguns

Socks are a complete waste of time. Before babies start wearing proper footwear – more on that in future reviews – socks alone are pointless. My Little Man seems to thoroughly enjoy removing and eating his socks, or dropping them out of his pram if we’re out and about. As the cold months approach barefoot is no longer an option so I set out to find an alternative before we ventured into the world of foot measuring and new shoes potentially every six weeks! You’ll be pleased to hear that I do in fact have a solution.

Snuguns!!

Now you may already be aware of their lovely range of gloves, but come December Snuguns will be branching out into booties. Elasticated socks which have a black band which you fold down so its fitted around the ankle bone ensures a perfect fit which even my Little Man can’t remove.  The loop pile means there is comfort and cushioning that also allows complete movement whilst air moves freely so you don’t end up with overheating feet. My favourite feature is the silicone lattice pattern on the soles which means they won’t slip when they start cruising and eventually walking around.

These “booties that fit growing feet” do just that – they fit as they grow. One pair will fit from age 6 months up to about 4 years. Available in pink and blue I highly recommend that you invest in a pair – or two – for your little ones.

Snuguns Booties will be available from http://www.snuguns.com

Whilst you’re there take a look at their glove range – also perfect for those cold winter months.

Product Review: “Louis The Lion Hooded Sweatshirt” available at My Mother Nature

Well after that rather brief heatwave a few weeks ago I think we can all safely agree that autumn is now upon us.  Whilst it might not be bitterly cold yet I’m sure it’s just around the corner so now is definitely the time to be sorting out your winter warmers for your little ones.  Can I suggest a virtual trip to My Mother Nature?

My Mother Nature sells a range of clothing for bump, baby and beyond, up to the age of 4 years, and they have a new range of gorgeous sweatshirts in from Olive & Moss that are perfect for keeping your little ones warm during the winter ahead.  Take a look at my Little Man sporting the Louis The Lion version:

Now this adorable sweatshirt is available in four designs – Louis The Lion and Tarquin The Tiger for the boys, and Collette The Cow and Betty The Bunny for the girls. I think whoever decided that a Tiger should be called Tarquin is clearly in the right job!  The sweatshirts are 100% cotton and have the character appliqued on the front.  They are available from size 6 months to 3 years. My Little Man is modelling the 12-18month size and it is a nice generous fit. The Louis The Lion design features the colourful Louis on the front with flapping ears and a matching bright yellow hood lining.  My Little Man was cosy and warm but still free to move around. It makes an ideal alternative to a thick coat on milder days and could easily be used all year round.

Check out the full range, plus My Mother Natures other lovely products on their website. You can also follow them on Twitter @MyMother_Nature.
